Christmas and New Year help information.

Here is your guide to local services available over the holidays. We wish you all a happy Christmas and a great New Year! 

Contact Centre

The Contact Centre, Civic Offices, 2 Watling Street, Bexleyheath, will be open, as usual, on 27, 28 and 31 December 2018 as follows:

  • telephone enquiries 8am to 5pm
  • transactions reception 9am to 5pm
  • main reception 8am to 8pm

It will be closed on 24, 25, 26 December 2018 and 1 January 2019

Emergencies: To contact the Council in an out-of-hours emergency during the holiday period, please use the Council's main switchboard telephone number 020 8303 7777 which will be answered by the emergency duty officer.

Waste and recycling household collections

There will be no collections on Tuesday 25 December, Wednesday 26 December or Tuesday 1 January.

Waste and recycling collections have been revised as follows:

Thursday 27 December to Sunday 30 December (two days later than normal).

Wednesday 2 January to Saturday 5 January (one day later than normal).

Normal collections resume Monday 7 January.

Christmas trees

We will only be collecting Christmas trees from properties which are part of the garden waste service. Please cut your tree in half and place it next to your garden waste bin on your collection day.

Garden waste collections will be suspended week commencing 24 December for two weeks - resuming again on Monday 7 January.

Reuse and Recycling Centres

The Council's Reuse and Recycling Centres at Thames Road, Crayford and Maidstone Road, Foots Cray, are open 7.30am to 4pm. They are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Please note that Foots Cray is closed on Wednesdays.

Mini recycling centres

Our mini recycling centres throughout the borough are very busy over holiday periods. if the banks are full please take your recycling home, they will be emptied as soon as possible. Please remember to use all you recycling containers at home.

Bexley Libraries

All Bexley Libraries will be closed on 25 and 26 December 2018 and 1 January 2019.
Thamesmead Library will close at 5:30pm on 24 and 31 December 2018
Central Library will close at 5:30pm on 27 December 2018.
All other opening hours will remain as advertised on the Bexley Libraries website.
