Central Library, Bexleyheath re-open for business!
Central Library, Bexleyheath opened its doors yesterday (1 February) following a four week closure for essential improvement works.
Works have included improvements to facilities, with bigger meeting rooms, refreshing the look and feel of the library. The closure also provided an opportunity to address some current drainage issues.
Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Environment and Leisure, Cllr Peter Craske said; “It’s good to have Central back open for business as usual. The refurbishments will make a great difference to library users and have all been finished in time for our first ever book festival – BookBuzz - that takes place across the borough from 10 - 24 February!”
BookBuzz will launch with a special event at Central Library on 10 February from 10am that will feature visits from favourite book characters, face painting, circus skills and much more. Pickup a festival brochure and take a look at our special BookBuzz video.
Work at the library also involved preparation for the installation of a new Changing Places toilet, the first of its kind in the borough. The new Changing Places facility will provide people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as well people with other physical disabilities, with a safe place with extra equipment and space to allow them to use toilets comfortably.
The new Changing Places room will have an external access from Royal Oak Road and will be open later this year.
