Changes to housing allocations policy

Local people are being asked for their views on proposed changes to Bexley's housing allocations policy.

The existing allocations policy has been in place since 2013. It needs updating to reflect local priorities and new duties imposed on the Council by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Alex Sawyer said: “We need to make sure that properties are allocated to those people with the highest level of need and we are re-designing our banding system to do that. The new Act also allows us to make more use of private sector properties for local people.

“Before we can go ahead with any changes to the policy we need to hear from local people. This is your chance to influence how we allocate homes to local people that need them most.”

The banding proposals and the proposed changes are available as part of the consultation.

The consultation will be open between Monday 11 March and Friday 31 May 2019.
