Christmas for Bexley’s Care Leavers

Young care leavers came along to their annual Christmas party last week (14 December) organised by social workers and staff from Bexley’s children’s services.

The young people aged between 18 and 25 made the most of the event to catch up with friends and the Council staff that provided support to them during their time in care.

Cabinet Member for Children’s Service, Cllr Philip Read said: “Our role as corporate parents does not simply end when our young people reach 18. For many of these young people we are the closest thing to a family network. These kind of events not only helps them to keep in touch with each other, but lets us keep in touch and check how they are doing.”

Volunteers from children’s services will also be hosting Christmas dinner on the big day with some care leavers that would otherwise be alone during the festivities. Ten members of staff will be cooking and pulling crackers with the young people and, in some cases, their children.
