Proposed addition to the Local List: Former Bexley Maternity Hospital, Barnehurst

The former Bexley Maternity Hospital, 221 Erith Road, DA7 6HZ has been nominated as an addition to the Local List, which currently comprises approximately 400 entries.

The Bexley Maternity home opened in May 1937, when the previous maternity unit on the Broadway had become too small to handle the district’s growing population, and served the community as a maternity facility until 1978. It most recently served as offices for the Bexley Clinical Commisioning Group, but this function has recently relocated.

The Council is seeking your opinion on whether the former Bexley Maternity Hospital should be added to the Local List. The Council is also seeking any information you may hold about the building and its history. Historical records including photographs are particularly welcome.
