Proposed addition to the Local List: ‘Old School Court’ Clarence Crescent, Sidcup, DA14 4DJ
‘Old School Court’ Clarence Crescent, Sidcup, DA14 4DJ has been nominated as an addition to the Local List, which currently comprises approximately 400 entries.
The building (formerly Bird College/Birkbeck School) was constructed in 1882 as a National School. Extended in 1893 to cater for the growing population within Sidcup, the building offered primary education for all regardless of income and class. The building remained in educational use until 2014.
The site is a fine example of a late Victorian public school building with most of the original external design features remaining (e.g. an ornamental dedication plaque; the pyramidal tower; original door and window openings).
The Council is seeking your opinion on whether the building should be added to the Local List. The Council is also seeking any information you may hold about the structure and its history. Historical records including photographs are particularly welcome.
