A free event at which local residents will be able to find out more about the wide range of support, opportunities and activities for older people, their families and carers has been organised by London Borough of Bexley.

The event is taking place on Saturday 14 October from 11am to 4pm at the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath. More than 30 partner organisations will be on hand to showcase the work they do and how they can support older people to keep happy, healthy and active, as well as getting involved in their local community.

Residents will be able to see what’s on offer from Bexley’s leisure centres, libraries and tourist attractions such as Hall Place, as well as getting support and advice from organisations including Age UK, Mind in Bexley, Contact the Elderly and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Cllr Brad Smith, Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services said: “We want all people in our borough to love and enjoy later life. This event is the first of its kind in Bexley and is a fantastic way to put older members of our community, their friends, family and carers in touch with local groups and opportunities.

“Visitors will be able to explore an array of exciting free activities and community volunteering opportunities, as well as get advice with health and planning for future retirement. There will also be an opportunity to test out new technology that can support residents to remain independent.

“If you or someone you know - whether they’re a friend, neighbour, partner or relative - would like to see just how much there is to do in the borough, please bring them along.”

Local residents can attend the event for free and there is no booking required, with free entertainment, refreshments and parking for everyone who attends.

The event is being put on as part of the London Borough of Bexley’s new Ageing Well Strategy, which is currently being developed. It aims to showcase the work the Council and its partners are doing to support residents to age well in Bexley.
