Council statement following Grenfell Tower fire
Our thoughts and sympathies are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the fire at Grenfell Tower on Wednesday, those who were injured and those made homeless.
We would also like to record our thanks once again to the emergency services, who responded with their usual bravery and professionalism.
We are part of the pan-London team working with the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea to help all those affected by the fire. We have offered the services of a trained team of Council staff to work at a rest centre in the area and we will do everything we can to respond to other requests for assistance that we may receive.
While we do not own or manage any high rise tower blocks, we take our responsibility for the safety of those who live in them very seriously. We have contacted the main housing providers in the borough to ensure that they are complying with all the relevant fire safety requirements. We will act on any lessons and additional guidance that may come forward as a result of the fire.
Anyone who would like to support those affected by the fire can make a donation at https://beta.redcross.org.uk/appeal/london-fire-relief-fund
100% of the money collected will be used to help the victims.
