Message from the Leader of the London Borough of Bexley
We are all understandably anxious because of the increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) but I want to reassure you that we are working with our partners to do everything we can to keep all our residents and staff safe.
Please use the information published by the NHS and Public Health England as the trusted source of health advice for you, family members and friends.
We are working hard to ensure that we support the government's plans to control the spread of the virus and to help all those in Bexley who are affected by it. As you would expect, our priority is to ensure we continue to provide essential services and support for the most vulnerable in our community.
This pandemic is by far the most serious public health issue most of us can remember, but the partnership working between the Council, the NHS, police and other organisations is also closer than ever before.
Knowing our residents, I was not surprised to see that local people wasted no time in taking their own steps to support and help others. I applaud these efforts but hope everyone involved will seek advice to ensure they do not risk their own health or safety or that of the people they want to help.
We have teamed up with the Bexley Voluntary Service Council (BVSC) to launch a way of volunteering to help others in ways that suit your own skills and interests.
However anxious we may be, we can all help by keeping calm and working together.
You will start to notice that some of our non-essential services will be closed and events cancelled. We need to do this to ensure we can maintain essential services with the resources available to us and to reduce infection.
We are trying to protect residents and our staff by limiting face-to-face contact. Please check this website for the most up-to-date information.
Government has told us that it will be providing extra support for people and businesses most affected by the economic impacts of the pandemic. We will share the details on our website.
Things are moving very fast and we will continue to adapt our advice, guidance and services as the situation changes. We will do our best to keep you informed.
To keep up-to-date if you are online please sign up for our Bexley Magazine Extra email newsletter. Please share the information you pick up from reliable sources like this with your family, friends and neighbours.
