New Bexley walk to remember the fallen

A new walk is now available on the free BexleyWalks app to commemorate the centenary of the 1918 armistice.

The new route takes walkers in the footsteps of local men who lost their lives in the First World War, running from the Bexleyheath war memorial to the Welling war memorial.

The app highlights key points along the way which were important to many of those fallen men and women who are remembered on the memorials.

Cabinet Member for Places, Cllr Peter Craske said; “This new route is an important reminder of the many, many young men and women who gave their lives for their country and a chance to take in some of the memorials that have kept them with us over the years.”

BexleyWalks is a new free app designed to help residents and visitors find out more about some of Bexley’s hidden treasures.  BexleyWalks provides guided walks that include maps and interesting facts and images that appear when app users arrive at different stop points on the routes.

The app has three other routes: ‘Bexley Village’, ‘Bygone Bexleyheath’ and ‘Erith Riverside’. The app has been developed by the borough’s Local Studies and Archive Centre’s team.

Each of the walks on the map takes around an hour to complete in one go. The app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play Store.
