Bexley's residents were asked to have their say as part of a review of polling arrangements in the borough.

By law, local authorities must review their polling districts, polling places and polling stations at least every four years.

Following the review of the London Borough of Bexley's electoral arrangements carried out by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England earlier this year, the number of wards in the borough is to reduce from 21 to 17 from 3 May 2018, the date of next year's local elections. The change means that the Electoral Registration Officer must carry out a further review.

The review asked for comments on the suitability of current polling stations and for ideas about possible alternatives.

The Council has now concluded the first stage of consultation on the review of Polling Districts, Polling Places and Polling Stations 2017. We are pleased to say that we have reduced the number of portacabins in use and improved access and visibility. We are using more community facilities such as churches and libraries and have improved the overall cost effectiveness through the review.

A summary of the submissions received from electors and other interested parties together with the Returning Officer’s provisional recommendations on the review can be found on the following document, Responses and Returning Officer proposals (PDF, 359KB).

If you would like to comment on the Returning Officers provisional recommendations, these should be submitted by no later than Wednesday 8 November 2017.

Responses should be in writing to Electoral Services, London Borough of Bexley, Civic Offices, Bexleyheath, DA6 7AT or by e-mail to elections.office@bexley.gov.uk Responses may relate to your own ward or the borough arrangements generally. When all the responses to the consultation have been analysed, a report will be presented to the General Purposes Committee in November 2017.
