Red-tagged containers

Red-tags are placed on waste containers that have not been emptied because they are presented incorrectly or contain the wrong materials.

It is not possible to report red-tagged containers as missed collections.

What to do if your containers are red-tagged

Contains garden waste

Green bins containing garden waste will not be emptied. Please remove the garden waste before your next collection. Garden waste can be collected through our garden waste service for houses or taken free of charge to the reuse and recycling centres.

Too many bins left out, excess waste left or overfull

Only one green bin will be emptied per household per collection. We will only collect waste that is inside your green bin with the lid closed and will not collect any waste left on top of or next to your bin. If you regularly can't fit all your non-recyclable waste in your green bin please contact us and we’ll help you to reduce and recycle as much as possible. To dispose of waste that was not collected you can:

  • store it until your next collection (please make sure that it is correctly presented)
  • take it to the reuse and recycling centres for free
  • arrange an additional waste collection for £15 per collection (conditions apply) by telephoning the Contact Centre on 020 8303 7777

Too many bins put out or wrong container used

We will only empty the number of garden waste bins specified in your membership and will only empty official Bexley bins. Additional bins are charged at £30* each and you can have up to five garden waste bins. Please complete the garden waste service form to increase the number of garden waste bins on your membership.

On-Stop Due To Non-Payment

We will not collect from addresses where the garden waste collection service has been put 'on-stop' due to non-payment. Please complete the garden waste service form to renew your garden waste membership so that the collection service can start again.

Contaminated, large branches in bin or contains soil or turf

We are unable to collect garden waste bins which contain incorrect materials. This is because the facility where this material is sent for recycling is not able to process these items. Please visit garden waste service for houses for a list of materials accepted.

* Terms and conditions apply. Please see Garden waste terms and conditions for houses (PDF, 128KB).

Contaminated

We are unable to collect recycling boxes which contain incorrect materials; including food boxes containing garden waste. This is because the facility where this material is sent for recycling is not able to process these items.

Please visit recycling for houses for details of what is accepted in each container.

Not out or no access

This means that our collection crews have reported that your container was not available for collection. Please ensure that your waste and recycling is available for collection from 6.45am on your scheduled collection day. Find your collection day.

To dispose of waste that was not collected you can:

  • store it until your next collection (please make sure that it is correctly presented)
  • take it to the reuse and recycling centres (or mini-recycling sites if recycling) for free
  • Arrange an additional waste collection at £15 per collection (conditions apply) by telephoning the Contact Centre on 020 8303 7777

Container is damaged

If your bin or box is damaged it cannot be safely emptied by our crews. Please order a replacement container. A replacement container will be delivered within 10 working days. Please remember to request that your damaged container is removed (it can be collected when full).

Overweight or compacted

Attempting to empty heavy bins or boxes can damage the containers, lifting equipment and pose a health and safety risk for our crews. Please reduce the weight of the container before your next collection. Additional waste or recycling can be taken to the reuse and recycling centres.

Wrong container used

We can only collect waste or recycling that is in the correct container. If you do not have the correct containers please request waste containers. A replacement container will be delivered within 10 working days.
