The garden waste bin will be emptied fortnightly on the same day but the opposite week to your green refuse bin. Make sure your garden waste bin does not contain any food recycling. Food recycling is collected separately in a food recycling box.

Home composting

If you do not wish to sign up to the garden waste scheme, composting is a great way of turning old fruit, vegetables and garden waste into free compost for your garden.

  • purchase discounted compost bins, wormeries, and water butts online
  • you can also take garden waste to the reuse and recycling centres
  • reusable bags to help take material to the reuse and recycling centres can be purchased from local Council libraries, the Civic Offices and the reuse and recycling centres for £3 each, or two for £5 (until 31 March 2020)
