Promising Athletes Programme

A man pushes a weighted sled on turf, while another does push-ups in a gym

Our Promising Athletes Programme supports athletes competing at regional and national level in their chosen sport. The programme is designed to help athletes take the next step in their sporting development by providing free access to high-quality training facilities. Applications are welcome from all eligible athletes, including disabled athletes competing in recognised sports. Applications are accepted throughout the year.

What's included?

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Free access to fitness facilities, swimming pools and group exercise classes.
  • Access to off-peak racket sports facilities, where relevant to the athlete's sporting development.
  • Access to member benefits through the leisure centre app.
  • Five guest passes per year for friends and family.
  • A 12-month membership, after which athletes may reapply, subject to continued eligibility.

Please note that successful applicants may only use the leisure facility specified in their application for training purposes.

Am I eligible?

To apply, you must complete an online application form and provide supporting evidence from your National Governing Body (NGB) on official letterheaded paper. Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a member of a regional squad competing at regional level during the current season.
  • Have achieved a top-eight finish at a regional (or equivalent) competition during the most recent competitive season.

Eligible sports must be recognised by the relevant Sports Council, including Sport England, Sport Wales and recognised disability sport governing bodies.

Additional requirements

  • Applicants under the age of 18 must have parental or guardian consent.
  • Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times whilst attending the facility. The supervising adult must be a paying customer, member, or spectator (spectator access is free of charge).
