How to use the online service

If you want to view building control applications or contraventions you can do so online by using the Search Building Control Applications option below. 

You can follow the progress of a building regulation application, search a weekly list of applications and decisions and view historic applications and property details, including maps, through our building regulation applications database.

You can:

  • view current and historic building control applications by using a keyword, reference number, postcode or single line of an address
  • register so that you can track applications, save searches and get email notifications

Map searchView applications on a map with the option to zoom in and out. You can identify the application reference, and summary details are given on the screen.Select the area and time period for your application search and use the Zoom in/out, to move into your selected area on the map and find the application you are looking for.
Property searchFind out what is happening at a particular address.Enter part of an address or use the A to Z Street Search, then select the required address.
View listsView validated or completed applications over a certain period of time and/or within a certain Ward.Select Weekly or Monthly lists and the options you would like to see.
Registration (optional)Utilise the next three options by Registering your details. In doing so you can opt to receive email notifications on applications.Register your details and create your own personal profile then validate when your confirmation e-mail arrives. Log in on future visits.
Save searchesSave time when you next visit the site.Select “Save Search” and complete details as requested to save your searches for specific properties or areas.
Track applicationsKeep up-to-date with what is happening to your own application or ones that interest you with e¬ mail alerts.To track applications, select “Track” for any applications that interest you and then they will appear in your profile each time you log on.

You may only use material which is downloaded and/or printed for consultation purposes, to compare current applications with previous schemes and to check whether developments have been completed in accordance with approved plans. Further copies must not be made without the prior permission of the copyright owner.

Maps supplied by the Ordnance Survey are published under their conditions for 'Business Use Publishing'. All rights reserved. Unauthorised reproduction infringes Crown copyright and may lead to prosecution or civil proceedings.

Note

This service is being developed and some features are incomplete at present. Please note that:

  • the online building regulation history contained within the site is incomplete and must not be used as a substitute for carrying out a formal 'Land Charge Search'. No responsibility will be taken for any errors or omissions in the building regulation history information obtained from 'Public Access'
  • the information contained within Public Access does not constitute in any way a formal notification of a building regulation decision, and as such any actions taken as a result of information displayed on the site are undertaken entirely at the viewer's own risk
  • for practical and legal reasons, certain documents cannot be displayed, although this may alter depending on legislative changes
  • details of building regulation applications are available from 1992

Service availability

The building control application information online service is normally available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except for periods set aside for system maintenance which will usually take place between 3am and 5am.
