The community reuse shop
Reusing items is better for the environment than recycling them, because it requires no energy or processing, as the item is being used as it was originally intended and therefore getting a second chance.
Why reuse?
Reusing items is even better for the environment than recycling. It requires no extra energy or processing — the item is simply given a second chance to be used as originally intended.
When and where to visit
- Bexley’s Community Reuse Shop is at the Foots Cray Reuse and Recycling Centre
- The shop is a separate building, located just before the main recycling centre entrance
- A small number of parking spaces are available directly outside the shop, please do not park in the reuse and recycling centre itself
- Alternatively, you can enter via the pedestrian gate - the shop is on the left before you reach the main Reuse and Recycling centre
- Please take care when crossing the entrance road, as site traffic may be present
The shop includes an outdoor display area at the back, accessible only through the shop itself.
It is open to both residents and non‑residents.
What you will find
The community reuse shop will sell good quality pre-loved (second hand) items that are still in a good usable condition and at affordable prices, such as refurbished bikes, furniture, musical instruments, and more. All items in the shop have been donated at Bexley’s two reuse and recycling centres. They are no longer wanted or needed by their previous owners but are still in good enough condition to be reused rather than recycled or thrown away.
Can I drop off my pre-loved items?
Yes, residents are encouraged to drop off items in a clean, reusable condition for resale, and to take a look through the offered items themselves - you might just find something special.
Who we are
The Community Reuse Shop is a partnership between the London Borough of Bexley, Community Reuse, and Countrystyle Recycling Ltd.
At Community Reuse, our mission is to keep good‑quality items in use for as long as possible — reducing waste, supporting sustainability, and offering affordable goods to local residents.
Supporting council services
Income generated through the Community Reuse Shop goes directly into running the service. This ensures:
All staff are paid and trained (we do not rely on volunteers).
VAT and essential operational costs are covered, keeping the shop open and thriving.
If the shop generates a surplus, it is shared between Community Reuse and the London Borough of Bexley. The Council’s share helps to support local waste and recycling services.
Looking ahead
We are committed to expanding our work into more reuse, repair, and circular economy initiatives — giving even more items a second life and delivering greater benefits to the community.
