In each edition of the Bexley Magazine, we plan to focus on an area that we know our residents are most concerned with.
For this edition, we are looking at yellow boxes.
Yellow box junctions are where the road is marked with a yellow criss-cross pattern. They can only be installed at certain types of location and they can only be installed with agreement from the police.
Drivers are often dismayed by the introduction of a yellow box on their regular routes but there are very good reasons why they are in place. They are positioned at locations where queues often form, blocking movements through the junction, resulting in congestion and tailbacks on key routes. The markings clearly show the area that needs to be kept clear as often as possible.
Although drivers may feel frustrated at having to wait before entering a yellow box, there will be other times when they will be approaching from the other direction and will benefit from the junction being kept clear because of the box.
