Bexley’s annual Corporate Parenting Week is taking place this week (6 to 10 October), bringing together children in our care, young adults transitioning from care, staff, Councillors and community partners.
As Corporate Parents, it is Bexley’s responsibility to ensure that children and young people in our care receive the support, protection and opportunities they need to thrive.
This week highlights the importance of fostering a nurturing environment where every child and young person feels valued, safe and empowered.
The week launched today (6 October) with a special event. Children’s Services teams were joined by Leader of the Council, Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Chris Taylor and Director of Children’s Services, Stephen Kitchman and members of Positive Journeys Seniors – Bexley’s children in our care forum.
This week will see lots of exciting activities for children and young people, including a Football Funday hosted by Charlton Athletic Community Trust and culminating in the annual ‘You Are Fantastic’ awards ceremony on Friday 10 October.
Sponsors of the week’s events include ITRM, Charlton Athletic Community Trust, Fleet Tutors, Prospero Tutors and Fresh Start in Education.
Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Chris Taylor said:
This is such an important week in our calendar. It’s a chance for us to remind ourselves of the importance of our role as Corporate Parents in Bexley while recognising just how amazing the children and young people in our care are.
"As Corporate Parents it is up to us as Councillors and staff to ensure that their safety and wellbeing are taken seriously.
"We are their champions and recognising and valuing their importance and achievements is a theme running throughout this week. I’d also like to thank our sponsors for supporting this year's events."
