Artist Emma Louise Moore returns to Erith

Artist moulding the granite in Erith

The Council participates in a national scheme to repurpose construction materials from other riverside locations.

This means that in the Riverside Gardens in Erith we have been able to reuse and preserve the granite blocks removed from the old flood defence wall at Chelsea Embankment. These were removed as part of the Tideway works.

We are working with artist Emma Louise Moore to give them a new lease of life in Riverside Gardens and on Walnut Tree Road using them to create additional seating and informal play opportunities.

Emma Louise Moore has already designed and carved the granite piece at the entrance to Riverside Gardens. Over the coming weeks she will work on three more granite blocks that have been installed on Walnut Tree Road, carefully shaping the granite and bringing the pieces to life. They will be carved with ripple and wave motifs.
