Beat the January Blues with a Saturday of culture at Hall Place

Bird College students performing

The London Borough of Bexley is preparing to kick off the New Year with a vibrant Saturday of culture.

On 10 January 2026, Hall Place & Gardens is hosting two events designed to provide the perfect way to start 2026 on a high note.

Part of Bexley’s ‘Night Visions’ programme - supported by Arts Council England - the day offers a unique blend of world-class musical theatre and community art, all focused on the theme of light and well-being.

Afternoon melodies in the Great Hall

Starting at 2pm, the historic Great Hall will echo with the voices of Birdsong, an inspiring choral group from the internationally renowned Bird College. Known for their dazzling showcases, these student performers will bring the passion and discipline of musical theatre to life in one of the borough's most atmospheric settings.

Tickets are priced at £16.26, which includes the performance and a welcoming interval of tea, coffee, and cake. It is an unmissable opportunity for anyone who loves high-quality music and the uplifting power of a choir.

Creative connection with Centrepieces

Running alongside the music, Centrepieces Mental Health Arts Project will host a free Community Connection Day from 12pm to 5pm. Based at the Lodge and the East Lawn, this event invites visitors of all ages to help create three unique light-themed installations:

  • The Light We Share: A community mural focused on hope.
  • The Shifting Spectrum: A dynamic, illuminated sculpture representing the mental health spectrum.
  • The Dual Self Box: A space for anonymous reflection on our "light and dark" thoughts.

As dusk falls, the day culminates in “The Illumination,” where all the collaborative artworks will be lit up, transforming the gardens into a glowing sanctuary. For those attending the Birdsong concert, as you leave the Great Hall, you can walk directly onto the East Lawn to experience the finished light installations.

Whether you are looking for a sophisticated afternoon of song or a hands-on creative experience with the family, Hall Place is the place to be to beat the January blues.

The event is part of Night Visions - a festival of light-art themed events that has been made possible by £100,000 of investment from Arts Council England in the London Borough of Bexley and its partners in Bexley Culture Network.

It forms part of #CelebratingBexley, a year-long programme of arts, culture and entertainment marking key local anniversaries, including 60 years of the London Borough of Bexley, 500 years since the closure of Lesnes Abbey and 160 years of Crossness Engines.
