Young people across Bexley are being celebrated during Youth Work Week 2026, taking place from 2 to 8 November, with the theme "Where Futures Begin".

The week shines a spotlight on the invaluable role youth workers play in supporting, inspiring and empowering young people to reach their full potential. Across Bexley, youth workers provide safe spaces, trusted relationships and life-changing opportunities that help young people build confidence, develop skills and achieve their ambitions through a range of youth hubs, projects and support services.

Bexley's Youth Hubs in Sidcup, Slade Green and Welling offer welcoming spaces where young people aged 11 to 18 can access activities, guidance and support from trusted adults. Programmes include sports, creative activities, music projects, life skills sessions, wellbeing support and opportunities to make new friends and build confidence.

For older young people, services such as The Vibe at Welling Youth Centre provide support with employment, education, housing, money management and independent living skills, helping young adults navigate the next stage of their journey. Bexley also offers specialist programmes, including support for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

Throughout Youth Work Week, Bexley will celebrate the achievements of young people, recognise the dedication of youth workers and highlight the positive impact youth services have on communities across the Borough. The week will conclude with the annual Youth Awards, where young people from Bexley's youth hubs will be recognised for their accomplishments, with some having worked towards prestigious Jack Petchey Awards.

Councillor Chris Taylor, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

Youth Work Week is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible difference youth workers make in the lives of young people every day. Through trusted relationships, encouragement and practical support, they help young people build confidence, develop skills and realise their potential. We are proud of the youth services available across Bexley and the positive impact they have on helping young people achieve brighter futures."

Youth work plays a vital role in supporting young people through some of the most important stages of their lives. Whether helping them develop new skills, overcome challenges, improve their wellbeing or prepare for adulthood, youth workers are often the people who help young people see what is possible and take the next step towards their goals.

As we celebrate Youth Work Week 2026, we thank all the youth workers, volunteers and partners who help create opportunities for young people every day. Together, they are ensuring that across Bexley, futures really do begin here.
