Families in Bexley now have a dedicated space for early support and community-led services with the successful opening of the borough’s first Family Hub at West Street in Erith. The event, held on 1 April, welcomed a range of community representatives, voluntary organisations and local families, all eager to see the new facility in action.
The Family Hub is built on a simple but powerful vision: to support families as early as possible, reducing the need for statutory social work intervention. Recognising that early support can prevent small challenges from escalating, the Hub provides a welcoming, safe and supportive environment where families can access the help they need.
Cllr Chris Taylor, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:
The opening of the Erith Family Hub marks an important milestone in our commitment to early intervention and community-led support. By creating a space where families can seek guidance, connect with local services and feel empowered, we are ensuring that help is always within reach in Bexley. This Hub is a testament to the strength of our community and the collaborative effort that has made it possible.”
Unlike traditional service delivery models, the Family Hub aims to harness the strength already present in Bexley’s communities. By working alongside local organisations, the Hub ensures that support is not just available but also tailored, friendly and accessible to those who need it most.
Attendees at the launch event praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of having a dedicated space that prioritises family well-being and early support. The event also provided an opportunity for professionals and community groups to connect, reinforcing the collaborative approach at the heart of the Hub’s vision.
