Bexley recognised in King’s Honours List

The London Borough of Bexley is delighted to announce that Councillor June Slaughter who has served as Ward Councillor in Sidcup for more than 50 years, and two of the Council’s foster carers Peter and Rebekah Homewood, have been recognised by His Majesty the King in his Birthday Honours List.

Cllr June Slaughter has been awarded an MBE for her contribution to political and public service. As well as serving as a Ward Councillor in Sidcup, she has also served on a number of committees during her time on the Council and has twice held a role as a Council Cabinet Member. She held the position of Chairman of the Planning Committee for three years and was also the Deputy Mayor of Bexley from 1986 to 1987.

Peter and Rebekah Homewood have both been foster carers in Bexley for 26 years, caring for and enriching the lives of children with a variety of complex needs. They were both awarded BEMs for their outstanding contribution to foster services.

Councillor Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the Council said:

This honour is well deserved and a testament to June’s loyal service and dedication to the people of Sidcup and Bexley whom she has served for more than 50 years. I am proud to call her my colleague and know she will continue to serve Sidcup with the same passion and commitment in the future.

I am pleased that the fantastic work going on in our Borough by our dedicated foster carers has also been recognised. Peter and Rebecca Homewood are a credit to the foster caring team who work tirelessly to make a real difference in the lives of our children every single day”.
