Bexley’s new Mayor is Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore

Mayor Cllr Lisa-Jane Moore and Consort Mr Justin Moore

Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore, who represents Longlands ward, became the London Borough of Bexley’s 62nd Mayor at the Council’s Annual Meeting on 27 May.

The new consort is Mr Justin Moore.

Councillor Moore is the 74th person to hold the title of Mayor of Bexley since the old Borough of Bexley received its charter in 1937.

Born in East London (now called KuGompo City) in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, Councillor Moore credits her parents with instilling in her resilience and a strong work ethic.

She studied journalism and began her career running a local newspaper before moving to London in 1997 with her husband, Justin.

They both became British citizens in 2003 and moved to Sidcup the same year, living in Longlands Ward ever since.

Councillor Moore was first elected as a councillor in 2021 and has since served on several key scrutiny committees, including Adults Social Care and Health and Children’s Services and Education.

She also chaired Children’s Services scrutiny for three years, including work on SEND and foster carer recruitment and retention.

She served as Deputy Mayor from 2024 to 2025, a role she relished and which has prepared her well for the honour of becoming Civic Mayor.

Councillor Moore has built a successful career in communications, largely in the public sector, contributing to major national and London-wide events and challenges, including preparations for the Millennium Bug, the London 2012 Olympic Games and more.

During her time working for the NHS, she supported communications during the Covid-19 pandemic and other major incidents.

The Mayor said:

I am proud to serve as the Mayor of Bexley. This borough has been my home for over two decades and I am committed to working tirelessly to support and uplift our residents. Together, we can achieve great things for Bexley."

Cllr Moore and Justin are proud parents of twins, and enjoy life with their two spaniels. In their spare time, they are keen runners.

The Mayor has announced that she will be working throughout her Mayoral year to raise funds for three local charities, Crossroads Care South East London, children’s charity Truly Beloved and Diabetes UK Bexley.

Crossroads Care South East London supports adult unpaid carers, parent carers and older people across Bexley, helping them maintain their independence, wellbeing and connection to their community. Truly Beloved in Belvedere supports children with disabilities and special educational needs. Diabetes UK Bexley is a self-funded community group dedicated to supporting people affected by diabetes across the borough.

The Mayor appointed Councillor Frazer Brooks, who represents Blackfen and Lamorbey ward, as her Deputy Mayor and Ms Allison Hartshorn as the Deputy Mayoress.
