Local mental health arts charity Centrepieces is shining a light on wellbeing as part of Bexley’s Night Visions festival - a celebration of creativity running from October to January.
To mark their 25th anniversary, Centrepieces launched a new exhibition at The Stables Gallery, Hall Place and Gardens on World Mental Health Day (10 October). The exhibition runs until 4 November and features artwork exploring the theme of light and recovery.
Cllr Cafer Munur, Cabinet Member for Place Shaping said:
Centrepieces has supported local people with their mental health through creative workshops and activities since 1999. Their work gives a powerful perspective on the Night Visions theme of light and I’d encourage everyone to visit the exhibition and get involved.”
Sujatha Thaladi, Trustee of Centrepieces said:
We’re thankful to Bexley Council and Arts Council England for their support through the Night Visions project.
This funding has enabled Centrepieces artists to connect with the community through powerful visual storytelling, expressing creativity while raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing. The partnership shows how investment in the arts can inspire inclusion, recovery and lasting positive change.”
Following the exhibition, Centrepieces is running creative workshops where residents can explore light as a theme and medium. The first sessions saw participants make glowing glass pebble lamps, with more community workshops planned over the coming months.
As part of Night Visions, Centrepieces are planning to host Bringing Light to Mental Health: A Day of Community Connection in January. Keep an eye on our Night Visions website for more details.
The free, family-friendly event will feature collaborative art projects including a community mural, a colourful interactive light sculpture and a glowing reflection box — all exploring light, hope and shared wellbeing.
