A mobile classroom called ‘Dennis to the Rescue’ and built inside an old dustcart that had reached the end of its natural working life, is coming to Bexley to engage local children in recycling.

Inside ‘Dennis to the Rescue’ children learn about cartoon characters Wheelie Good and Wheelie Bad Waste via a fun storybook called ‘Dennis to the Rescue. Recycling at Home’. As well as cartoon characters there are lots of puzzles and word searches to help children learn what they can put into recycling bins, what these things can be made into, or how they can be reused. Dennis shows them how all these activities help our planet and how important that is.

Dennis will be in The Broadway in Bexleyheath on Saturday 26 September so if you want your children to take part in fun activities while learning more about sustainability and what happens to recycling in Bexley bring them along.

Dennis has also got some pre-arranged visits to primary schools across the Borough. Each primary school will receive an assembly on waste management and recycling services from the Councils Waste & Recycling Engagement Officer who runs the Schools Waste Action Club (SWAC), followed by classroom sessions inside Dennis in collaboration with the Councils contractor Countrystyle Recycling who is responsible for arranging the visit to Bexley. Each primary school visited will also get pictures and a green steward’s station bookcase with books to inspire the children at that primary school to take care of the environment.

Schools visited by Dennis were selected from the SWAC mailing lists and as demand was so high names were pulled from a hat for the five school visits available in Bexley. If you are a school and want more information on the School Waste Action Club email swac@bexley.gov.uk.
