Future Abbey Wood: Shape how your area looks, feels and works

Abbey Wood Village

Bexley Council is working to deliver further improvements in Abbey Wood that will benefit residents and businesses.

Having previously delivered £2.2mn of investment around Abbey Wood station via the upgrade of public realm, car parking and cycle facilities and having providing business support for shops in the area, we now want to hear from the local community about what they would like to see over the next decade.

The views of local people and businesses will shape an Urban Regeneration Framework (URF) for the area.  This will set out a clear shared vision for how Abbey Wood should grow and improve over the next ten years.

Cllr Munur, Cabinet Member for Place Shaping said:

This is residents’ chance to have their say on what matters to them. Abbey Wood has a distinctive character shaped by its green spaces and closeness to the river. The opening of the Elizabeth line has made it quicker and easier to travel to central London and beyond. This improved accessibility brings new opportunities for investment, jobs and services that can benefit the local community.

At the same time, nearby growth and development mean it is important to plan carefully so that change happens in a way that works for existing residents and strengthens the area for the future”.

You can tell us what you would like to see in Abbey Wood over the next ten years at Ask Bexley.

The survey takes around 5 to 10 minutes to complete, depending on how much detail you choose to provide. You can skip questions you do not wish to answer. It closes on 24 March.

We will also be holding two public drop-in events in March to get your views. Come along to the following and ask any questions you may have.

A summary of your feedback will be published and used to help shape the next stage of the Abbey Wood Urban Regeneration Framework (URF).

Once finalised, the Abbey Wood URF will help guide future decisions and investment in the area ensuring development contributes positively to the area. It will provide clarity for organisations looking to invest in Abbey Wood and support joined-up improvements that benefit the local community. It will also help shape Bexley’s next Local Plan.

The development of the Urban Regeneration Framework for Abbey Wood is a joint initiative with Royal Borough of Greenwich.
