Launch of Bexley’s Kinship Zone

Kinship care

Bexley is one of seven local authorities nationally taking part in the pilot Kinship Zones programme that launches today (1 April).

The Kinship Zones project has been designed to change how the UK helps Kinship Carers.

As part of the launch would like to hear from anyone who thinks they may be a Kinship Carer for a local child or young person, so we can make sure they receive the additional support and allowances as part of the programme.

Kinship Care is when children live with relatives or close family friends when their parents are unable to care for them. They often do it out of love and commitment, not because they planned to become carers.

When we talk about kinship care or Kinship Carers, we mean: relatives such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, cousins, family friends or people who already have a close, trusted relationship with the child.

You can get in touch at Bexley kinship care where there is more information including a list of FAQs or you can email kinshipsupport@bexley.gov.uk

More information including more details on the Kinship Carers Allowance will be announced in the next few weeks.

The Kinship Zones project has been funded by the UK Government.
