The Leader of the London Borough of Bexley, Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE has expressed her disappointment at the decision to reduce the hours of the Bexleyheath Front Counter provision from December.

The hours will change from 24 hours to 10am to 10pm weekdays and 9am to 7pm at weekends.

Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE said:

We made our feelings clear during the consultation and we will continue to do so.

It is a terrible decision to reduce public access hours at Bexleyheath Police Station, which has long served as a vital point of contact for our residents.

Despite the fact that we are the only town centre within our Basic Command Unit with clubs that stay open until 2.30am and we are the one that has had the 24/7 resource removed.

While we of course welcome the decision to retain the front counter, we remain concerned about the impact reduced hours may have on vulnerable individuals seeking assistance from the Police and those less able to engage digitally.

This decision will undoubtedly been seen by local people and businesses as the MPS and the Mayor of London taking yet more of their resources away from Bexley.

We will be watching the situation very carefully. Our priority is to ensure that residents feel safe and supported and we will be seeking reassurances from the MPS on how this will be achieved under the new model.”
