We’re proud to announce that Lesnes Abbey Woods has once again been awarded a Green Flag Award, recognising it as one of the UK’s best-managed green spaces.

This international honour celebrates the site’s excellent management, environmental standards, and strong community involvement. This year’s feedback was especially positive, highlighting Lesnes Abbey Woods as “an invaluable green lung in a very urban area” with “excellent management and fantastic community involvement”.

A huge thank you goes to, the Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods, our dedicated volunteers, and the Grounds Maintenance and Trees Teams for their continued hard work and passion.

The Green Flag Award® is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark for excellence across the UK and beyond. Winning this award not only recognises the efforts of our teams but also helps promote the site and share best practices across the sector.

Councillor Richard Diment, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood, said:

Lesnes Abbey Woods is a much-loved green space and this award is a testament to the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community partners. It’s fantastic to see their hard work recognised nationally once again.”

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:

Quality parks and green spaces like Lesnes Abbey Woods make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.

Crucially, Lesnes Abbey Woods is a vital green space for communities in the borough of Bexley to enjoy nature, and during the ongoing cost of living crisis it is a free and safe space for families to socialise. It also provides important opportunities for local people and visitors to reap the physical and mental health benefits of green space.”

Congratulations to everyone involved in keeping Lesnes Abbey Woods a beautiful, welcoming space for all.
