The London Borough of Bexley have partnered with Head In The Game to deliver MindFuel.
This programme brings local communities together through free, friendly sporting activities, aiming to improve mental health through movement and helping to reduce loneliness and isolation by building social connection.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services and Health, Cllr Melvin Seymour, attended one of the sessions – a 12-week football programme for men - which helps address isolation and mental health among men.
He spoke with players taking part about their experiences and heard about the benefits the scheme has had.
Cllr Seymour said:
This work proves the incredible impact physical health and sport can have on mental health.
These sessions encourage people to speak with each other, helping them to combat stress and pressures of life as well as issues of loneliness and isolation, build confidence and meet new people.
I would encourage anyone looking to get active and improve their wellbeing to sign up to one of MindFuel Bexley’s programmes."
Sessions are run by experienced sports and mental health coaches and offer a fun, welcoming space for those taking part.
The sessions are open to anyone who is seeking to improve their fitness, mental wellbeing and wishes to connect with others in a safe and supportive environment.
All sessions are completely free to attend, non-judgmental, non-competitive, and open to all abilities.
