Learning Enterprise College Bexley (LECB) opened its new specialist site, ‘Sensory Pathways’, for post-19 special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) learners on June 4.
Cllr Caroline Newton, Cabinet Member for Education, was on hand to officially open the site on St Augustine’s Road in Belvedere.
Sensory Pathways will provide a dedicated Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) local provision, meeting the complex needs of our residents within Bexley while promoting the independence of its users with daily life skills.
Importantly, it will enable the borough’s younger residents to remain in their local communities.
Cllr Newton said:
This new site will provide an important place for our young people to learn while allowing them to remain close to their families and community, rather than having to travel outside the borough for this essential provision.
I am delighted to officially open this fantastic space and pleased it will help improve the lives of young adults and their families in Bexley.”
Sensory Pathways is a satellite site for post-19 SEND students run by LECB.
It will cater to around 12 to 16 students and consists of three classrooms, a communal space, adapted toilets, kitchen space and secure outdoor space.
It will help students enhance their communication skills, physical development, social engagement and their social and emotional wellbeing.
The Council is further utilising this asset to meet the needs of the borough’s SEND students.
