Sidcup closure order for illicit cigarettes and tobacco

Closure order

The London Borough of Bexley’s Trading Standards Team, with support from the Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams, secured a closure order for a shop in Sidcup selling illicit tobacco and cigarettes.

On Thursday 29 January, Bromley Magistrates Court granted a closure order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 for Sidcup Mini Market, 9 St John’s Parade, Sidcup.

The shop is now closed for a period of 3 months ending on 23:59 on 28 April 2026.

This closure followed extensive investigations that included numerous test purchases and the seizure of illegal products.

Cllr Richard Diment said:

Securing this closure order demonstrates our continued commitment to keeping our communities safe and makes it clear the sale of illicit tobacco and cigarettes will not be tolerated in our Borough.

“We remain committed to working with our partners, including the Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams, to protect our residents and maintain a fair trading environment."

This closure order followed three successful test purchases between October 2025 and January 2026 and a large seizure carried out on the 27 of January.

In total, 768 Packets of cigarettes and 5.1kg of hand rolling tobacco were seized.

These actions demonstrate a continued commitment by Trading Standards and the Police to tackle the illegal trade of age-restricted and counterfeit goods in the borough.
