Sold-out showcase of young musical talent at Sidcup Storyteller

ArtsTrain performance in April

Young musicians from the award-winning ArtsTrain programme wowed a packed-out audience at Sidcup Library recently as part of the borough’s year-long #CelebratingBexley programme.

The live showcase transformed the library into an intimate gig space last month (3 April), where talented young artists – all under the age of 18 – performed their own original music among the bookcases. The sold-out event featured a mix of powerful solo performances and dynamic ensembles, giving audiences a taste of the incredible musical talent being nurtured right here in South East London.

ArtsTrain, a charity dedicated to providing free musical opportunities to young people across Bexley, Bromley and beyond, runs a weekly creative music programme at The Exchange in Erith. The initiative empowers young people to develop their skills, collaborate with others, and grow in confidence through songwriting, performance and creative exploration.

Cllr Brian Bishop, Cabinet Member for Communities, said:

It was fantastic to see Sidcup Library come alive with music, creativity and community spirit. Events like this show the importance of giving young people a platform to share their voice and celebrate their talent – and The Storyteller is the perfect setting for that."

Annabell Puddick from ArtsTrain added:

It was wonderful to see our Academies' original music come to life at Sidcup Library.

The event also provided a meaningful opportunity for our young musicians to connect with new friends and alumni members who had been through our programme previously."

This performance formed part of #CelebratingBexley, a borough-wide programme of arts, culture and community events throughout 2025 marking a series of significant local anniversaries.
