Statement from the London Borough of Bexley

Bexley news update

We have previously set out our response to the recent raising of flags in Bexley as part of a national campaign.

We are continually monitoring the situation and are carrying out risk assessments where appropriate. We are removing flags that are a health and safety risk.

We have become aware of incorrect social media posts circulating suggesting that a Council Officer and a contractor working for the council have been seeking to remove flags. This is not the case, and our staff or contractors should not be subject to abuse or intimidation for carrying out their legitimate duties, including site safety inspections. We will report such incidents to the police and provide our full support to our employees and contractors in such circumstances.

We take a zero tolerance approach to threats or intimidation of our staff. Abuse, aggression, discriminatory behaviour or violence towards our staff is acted upon in line with our zero tolerance statement, which is available on our website.
