Two shops in Belvedere have been closed for three months after Bromley Magistrates’ Court granted closure orders following investigations into the sale of illicit tobacco and cigarettes.
On Thursday 27 August, the Court granted closure orders under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 for Candy Shop, 26 Albert Road, Belvedere, and the Lithuanian Food Centre, 18 Gilbert Road, Belvedere.
The closure orders are the second secured against both premises and follow extensive investigations by Trading Standards and the Police, including a number of successful test purchases.
Councillor Sandhu, Cabinet Member for Environment, Culture & Leisure, said:
Securing these closure orders demonstrates our continued commitment to keeping our communities safe and makes it clear that the sale of illicit tobacco and cigarettes will not be tolerated in our Borough. We remain committed to working with our partners, including the Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams, to protect our residents and maintain a fair-trading environment.”
The latest action follows three successful test purchases carried out between May and August 2026.
Trading Standards and the Police will continue to work together to tackle the illegal sale of age-restricted and counterfeit goods and take action against businesses where there is evidence of illegal trading.
The closure orders demonstrate that businesses selling illegal goods can face serious consequences, and that enforcement action will be taken to protect residents and legitimate businesses across the Borough.
