Ubitricity partnership provides 400 new charge points in Bexley

ubitricity Ev charger on lamp post

400 new lamp post Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points have been installed across the borough thanks to the Council’s partnership with ubitricity one of the largest EV charging operators in the UK.

In a rollout that demonstrates the Borough’s commitment to reducing emissions and improving air quality, the charge points have been installed into existing residential lamp posts to support residents who do not have the option of charging their EV at home.

All the charge points include ubitricity’s Shell Smart Charging software which helps drivers to save money on their charge by selectively charging when tariffs are cheaper. The charge points are completely silent and charging overnight is where drivers will see the biggest savings.

Off‑peak charging is available from 12am to 7am and costs 44p per kWh, making it one of the most affordable public charging options in the Borough. That means you can plug in close to home and take advantage of low off‑peak prices while you sleep.

Cllr Cameron Smith, Bexley’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Infrastructure said:

These new charging points will make it easier to charge electric vehicles across Bexley with a smart charging option to save money. Working in partnership with ubitricity, the public chargers have been installed in existing lamp columns, meaning no extra street clutter nor charging cables crossing pavements. As more residents switch to electric vehicles, we’re committed to delivering the charging infrastructure our borough needs to keep moving."

Stuart Wilson, UK Managing Director of ubitricity, said:

We are proud to work on this project alongside The London Borough of Bexley to expand access to EV charging across the community. By installing charge points into existing street light infrastructure, we are making it easy for residents to charge right outside their homes which we hope will further encourage EV adoption across the borough."
