There are a number of legal provisions that allow access to information held by the London Borough of Bexley:

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) enables people to access recorded information held by the Council, subject to a number of exemptions that are specified in the Act.

The Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) enables people access to environmental information held by the Council.

The Data Protection Act (DPA) provides individuals with access to their personal information held by the Council. A request for personal information is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

How can I make a Freedom of Information request?

Before making either a Freedom of Information request (FOI) or an Environmental Information Regulations request (EIR), we encourage you to refer to the Council’s Disclosure Log in the first instance, which provides details of previous information requests and the Council’s responses. By reviewing the log, you will be able to check if the same or a similar request has been made before and may find the information you require.

Freedom of Information requests needs to be in writing. You must provide your name and either an email or postal address in order for us to respond to your request. A Freedom of Information request or an Environmental Information Regulations request can be made by:

We aim to acknowledge all FOI and EIR requests within two working days of receipt and aim to respond fully within 20 working days.

To make a request under the EIR, the request can be made online, by letter or by telephone.

Internal review

If you are unhappy with how the Council has dealt with your request, you can request an internal review by:
