Making Every Contact Count

Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is a behaviour change approach uses everyday interactions between organisations, their staff, and the people they serve to help individuals make positive changes to their physical and mental health and overall wellbeing.

MECC promotes the opportunistic, consistent, and concise delivery of healthy lifestyle information, enabling meaningful health focused conversations at scale across organisations and communities.

  • For organisations, MECC involves creating the leadership, culture, training, and access to information that staff need to confidently use the MECC approach.
  • For staff, MECC means having the skills and confidence to share healthy lifestyle messages, encourage behaviour change, and signpost people to local services that can offer further support.
  • For individuals, MECC is about seeking support and taking practical steps to improve their health - such as eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, drinking alcohol sensibly, being physically active, not smoking, and looking after their mental wellbeing.
