The council receives around 12,000 street works permit applications per year and tries to facilitate all of them to provide services to residents and businesses. The majority are by Utility companies (Water, Gas, etc) that have a legal right to maintain their pipes and cables, so the council can only seek to co-ordinate the works, as much as possible.

Of course, the council does its own road works to maintain the highway, and fixes around 2,600 potholes, resurfaces around 30 roads, and replaces large areas of around 70 roads per year. The 2026/27, the approved road resurfacing/strengthening programme includes the following sections of roads. This is subject to change due to weather, other roads becoming higher priorities, or utility works planned for the road/nearby.
