Bexley’s first community reuse shop, selling good quality pre-loved items at affordable prices, will open at Foots Cray Reuse and Recycling Centre on Friday 5 December.
The reuse shop offers a sustainable way to shop for affordable goods and for people to donate items that they no longer need but that they don’t want to throw away.
The shop will sell items that are still in good usable condition, such as furniture, bicycles, electrical items and homeware. Before the reuse shop opened, many of these items would have been sent for recycling, requiring energy to turn them into something new or worse yet, they would have ended up incinerated with other non-recyclable items.
Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Richard Diment, said:
“I am delighted that Bexley’s Community Reuse Shop is open in time for Christmas. It offers an affordable and environment friendly alternative for anyone shopping for a bargain.
This fantastic initiative gives residents the opportunity to donate reusable items, helping to reduce waste. It's a practical and meaningful way for people to make a real difference."
The old storage building that the shop is housed in is thought to have been a former air raid shelter in a previous life and has been resurrected with a fresh repaint. Reusable items such as the shelving have also been used in the fit-out of the shop.
The reuse shop is located on the left-hand side just before you enter Foots Cray Reuse and Recycling Centre. It is open to both residents and non-residents. There are a few parking spaces outside the shop, so please do not park in the Reuse and Recycling Centre. Alternatively, you can enter the site and access the reuse shop via the pedestrian gate from Maidstone Road, Foots Cray, DA14 5HS:
Initially, the shop will be open 4 days a week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 9am to 4pm. You can check opening times and find out more by visiting the community reuse shop page.
