Have your say on special educational needs and preparing for adulthood in Bexley

A survey to help inform how Bexley supports local young people and their families with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who are preparing for adulthood, has opened this week.

We want to hear from children, young adults, parents and carers about their experiences, what are the most important areas for us to focus on to ensure that we are providing the best possible services for children and young people in our Borough.

Please tell us what you think if you:

  • have a special educational need and/or a disability
  • are a parent or carer of someone with a special educational need and/or disability
  • provide services to those with a special educational need and/or disability
  • are being supported or have been supported by the preparing for adulthood team within Adult Social Care

The survey is part of the work that the London Borough of Bexley is carrying out with partners to develop a new Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities and Preparing for Adulthood Strategy.

Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Caroline Newton said:

It is important, as we create our strategy, that it is based on the views of anyone who has special educational needs or disabilities, or who uses - or has used – our services, so that we get an accurate picture of what is working and what we could develop.

We recognise that everyone has different involvement with our services at different times, so we would like to hear from as many people as possible."

Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, Cllr Melvin Seymour added:

This new strategy will bring together health, social care and education for those young people aged 0-25 who have a special educational need and/or disability, whether or not they are eligible for Care Act support.

We will be developing this strategy in partnership with local providers – but we need to hear from those who use the service or are likely to use the service in the future so we can deliver what we know local people need."
