London Borough of Bexley launches new campaign to showcase local high streets and businesses

Busy town centre with the words 'Buy Bexley' and 'You can get that in Bexley'

The London Borough of Bexley has officially launched Buy Bexley, a vibrant new Borough-wide campaign designed to challenge perceptions, support local traders and prove that residents do not need to look beyond their doorstep for shopping, dining, services and leisure.

Under the banner "You Can Get That in Bexley," the campaign puts the spotlight directly on the exceptional breadth and quality of all that is available across the Borough's town centres, independent shops and markets.

Running through the autumn and into the festive season, the campaign aims to make buying local a regular habit for residents while drawing visitors from neighbouring areas to experience everything Bexley has to offer.

The campaign kicks off on Saturday 3 October with a launch video, featuring Councillor David Leaf, Leader of the Council and Councillor Cameron Smith, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Infrastructure. The video features local business owners showcasing everything from fresh produce and birthday gifts to haircuts, coffee, meals and family days out.

Commenting on the launch, Councillor David Leaf, Leader of the Council, said:

Bexley has fantastic businesses, producers and attractions which we believe are among the best in the country. They support local jobs and in these challenging economic times we are getting behind Bexley’s businesses by asking you to ‘Buy Bexley’.

We aren’t just asking people to shop locally out of a sense of duty; we want to show them why they want to. When you look closer at Bexley’s high streets, markets and independent venues, the choice and quality available will surprise you. Buy Bexley is all about celebrating that variety and backing the fantastic people who run our local economy."

Throughout October and November, residents can find out about the people behind Bexley's independent enterprises, a seasonal countdown to Christmas highlighting festive shopping, food and experiences and get involved by sharing their favourite local businesses.

Earlier this year the Council launched its new Economic Growth Strategy and this campaign is supporting the Council’s work to promote investment into our town centres and local businesses.

How to get involved

Local businesses, service providers and traders are invited to participate by sharing exclusive offers, products, or events to be featured across Council marketing channels. Businesses will soon be able to access a simple participation toolkit and digital assets on the Buy Bexley page.

Residents and visitors can follow the campaign journey, discover participating businesses and join the conversation online using the hashtag #BuyBexley across social media channels.

Whatever your shopping needs, remember you can get that in Bexley.
