Safeguarding Adults in Bexley

Image shows lots of different people

Throughout November members of Bexley’s Safeguarding Adults Board (BSAB) and partners will be holding a series of events to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues.

The aim is to highlight key safeguarding issues, start conversations and raise awareness of safeguarding best practice.

The events also support National Safeguarding Week, which takes place Monday 20 November to Friday 24 November, by highlighting that adults can be victims of abuse or ill-treatment and how the public can raise a concern.

Each event will focus on a different safeguarding theme which relates to how individuals and organisations can safeguard themselves and others.

Events taking place include:

  • self-neglect conference - 6 November - Council Chamber, Civic Offices, Bexleyheath, DA6 7AT
  • suicide and self-harm awareness - 7 November - online event
  • cultural competency case learning - 16 November - online event
  • Person-centred planning 16 November - online event
  • legal literacy toolkit - 20 November - Central Library, Bexleyheath, DA6 7HL

To find out more about these events email bsab@bexley.gov.uk.

Other adult safeguarding issues that the council’s safeguarding adults team and the BSAB deal with include domestic violence, modern slavery, financial abuse, organisational abuse and sexual abuse.

Bexley Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Services Councillor Melvin Seymour said:

Our safeguarding adults team and the BSAB are working hard to help local people in need and are doing all they can to make sure they are safe and supported. Safeguarding is everyone’s business, please don’t stay silent about any concerns you may have about a potentially vulnerable adult."
