The London Borough of Bexley will help its most vulnerable residents with rising living costs in time for Christmas, with approximately 2500 households set to receive a £150 food voucher.
Those eligible for this support are households who, as of 31 July 2025:
- qualified for our Council Tax Reduction Scheme with children under 5 years old
- qualified for our Council Tax Reduction Scheme with a pensioner who does not receive Pension Credit
Those who are entitled to the vouchers will be contacted either by letter or email and will be given details on how to claim their voucher.
The Council has partnered with Edenred Reward Gateway to help provide the vouchers. Any queries should go to Edenred Reward Gateway Helpdesk who can be contacted by telephone 03334 005 932 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm) or by emailing household-support@edenred.com.
The vouchers will be funded from the most recent round of the Household Support Fund (HSF) from the Department for Work and Pensions which allocated the Council a grant of £2.71m to help residents for the period April 2025 to March 2026.
The distribution of the £150 food vouchers to targeted households is one of a broad range of initiatives that have been put in place in Bexley to help those most in need. The Household Support Fund has also been used for:
- free school meals in the school holidays
- housing support
- children’s social care
- adult social care
- organisations supporting unpaid carers
- local organisations supporting people effected by domestic abuse
- community organisations that specialise in the provision of white goods and furniture
- local foodbanks and other organisations providing crisis support to households
- local organisations that support with debt and benefits advice to households
The Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr David Leaf said:
With living costs rising we know that many households are struggling to make ends meet. This Administration will do what we can with the resources available to help those affected and the Council has therefore allocated the funding from the Household Support Fund so that it is as far reaching as possible and has the most impact on our vulnerable residents. As well as making direct payments to households, we continue to work with local organisations to help support those most in need."
