Update on Shenstone School Temporary Accommodation

Bexley news update

Parents and carers have been informed that the temporary location for Shenstone School pupils will be within the Jubilee Primary School site while the building works for the schools secondary expansion project is completed.

The temporary arrangements will be in place for the 2024/2025 academic year. While sharing the site pupils from each of the schools will have separate designated areas.

The announcement follows the recent news last month that Apex Ltd have been appointed as the contractor who will deliver the Shenstone expansion project on Halt Robin Road.

The arrangement will allow Shenstone School secondary students to be together on one ground floor site with sufficient classroom and outdoor space.

Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Caroline Newton, said:

I would like to thank parents and carers for their patience and understanding while we have been working to find the best possible solution for Shenstone students. This temporary arrangement will provide the stability they need while the expansion work takes place. I would also like to thank Jubilee School and the Trinitas Academy Trust for agreeing to these temporary arrangements as the build for Shenstone Secondary School’s permanent accommodation progresses.”

The Council, together with Shenstone School and TKAT (The Kemnal Academies Trust) looked at a range of possible options before collectively agreeing on the new temporary location which has been deemed the most appropriate arrangement for all Shenstone secondary students.

The Council is confident that the building works on the permanent site on Halt Robin Road will be completed in good time for the September 2025 academic year and that these temporary arrangements will only be required until then.

The Shenstone school expansion will provide additional places for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, creating an ‘all through’ school that will take pupils from ages 3 to 19.

TKAT and the Council have already met new contractors Apex Ltd to discuss the plans and have assured parents and carers that they will be kept informed throughout the process.
