Twenty motorists found guilty of Blue Badge misuse related offences have been successfully convicted over the past six months, receiving more than £24,000 in total fines, court costs and surcharges.
Blue Badge misuse is a criminal offence. Only people who have a physical or non-physical disability affecting their mobility are eligible for a Blue Badge and can use the concessions of the scheme.
Cllr Richard Diment; Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said:
Stolen Blue Badges were displayed in many of these cases and there can be no excuse for this selfish and shameful crime. This impressive conviction rate is a testament to how seriously we take this crime.
We will continue with our daily checks to protect the Blue Badge scheme and fraudulent badge users should be aware that we will take legal action in all cases of misuse.”

Following the General Election we would like to hear from anyone who used a polling station in Bexley.
We are keen to know about anything they may like to comment on including disability access issues, parking and the service they received in their polling station on the day.
Anyone can take part including elected representatives, local political groups and voluntary and community groups.
The Leader of the Council met with South Eastern Railway representatives earlier this year to discuss the improvements made to Bexley station as part of their ‘Access for All’ programme.
Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE said:
This is such an important issue given our reliance on South Eastern railways. We also know how many of our older residents use our stations and have heard first-hand how poor accessibility to transport can affect their way of life. We will continue to lobby South Eastern for improvements where they are needed.”
