Bexley Council is working closely with Transport for London. Transport for London is offering young adults leaving care aged between 18 and 25, who live in London, the opportunity to apply to receive half price bus and tram travel. This offer will also sit alongside other travel concessions such as Job Seekers Allowance and 60+ concessions and will enable you to make the most of the Hopper Fare (which allows unlimited bus and tram journeys within an hour for the price of a single journey).
Bexley Council is also working closely with Health and there is a project in place to provide ‘free’ prescriptions via the pre-paid prescription certificate (PPC) to some of our young adults leaving our care who are aged 18 to 25 who are not already eligible for free prescriptions. The aim is to reduce your risk of health deterioration, emergency presentations, inpatient admission, or longer periods in hospital. Your PA will be able to tell you more about this.
If needed, we can assist you to enrol on the electoral register. We want to hear your views so we can improve the experience for other young adults leaving our care.
You will be given the opportunity to get involved in Positive Journeys Seniors (Care Leavers Forum), training professionals, going on trips, participate in workshops and much more. Not only will this help boost your confidence but will also add to your CV.
We will keep you informed with all the exciting things going on in Bexley, including Monday Club with our Positive Journeys ‘bite size’ for our younger children, and our seniors’ groups on Tuesday evenings where we cook together, look at moneym management, health and well-being and all the other key skills for setting you on your way toward independence.
