Bexley expect all young adults leaving our care to have equal opportunities with education, employment and training as children growing up in their birth family’s homes. In fact, Bexley have made this very pledge a specific priority in the Strategy for Children in our Care and Young Adults Leaving our Care, ‘a mile in my shoes’.

1. Relationships

Relationships with our family and friends can help us to stop feeling lonely, have a safe base upon which to have a sense of belonging and a
network of people we can rely on when times are good or not so good. As a young adult leaving our care you may have a positive relationship with your parents and family and may want this to continue. You may also have close friends, a good relationship with your carer or other social networks that you are keen to stay in contact with.

We understand how important these relationships are and will support you to stay in touch where possible. Your Personal Advisor (PA) will help you with this and will detail your plan/wishes in your pathway plan. Sometimes, conflicts can arise within relationships that are hard to resolve. If this happens to you, your PA will be able to support you through this.
