It’s time for us to celebrate Bexley’s unsung heroes as the Civic Recognition Awards return to honour those who make a real difference in their community.
Nominations are now open for this year’s awards and residents are encouraged to take part.
The Civic Recognition Awards is a chance to celebrate outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to their community and served as role models to others.
The awards come in three different categories each recognising a different group of outstanding contributions:
- Civic Recognition of Young People - For young people up to age 18 who have undertaken voluntary service to the community or an individual
- Civic Recognition of Voluntary Service by Adults - For people over the age of 18 who have undertaken voluntary service to the community or an individual over a number of years
- Civic Recognition of Outstanding Achievement - For people of any age or organisation/business who, during the year, have achieved outstanding success in any walk of life including voluntary service, sport and culture, business or acts of bravery or courage
The previous year received more than 80 nominations, demonstrating the community's commitment to recognising outstanding contributions.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Baroness O'Neill of Bexley OBE said:
We know that in Bexley, there are those who go above and beyond to help neighbours, friends, family, or the community, whether volunteering for a national or local cause or quietly making a difference. They help make Bexley even better.”
Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Ahmet Dourmoush, Mayor of Bexley added:
If you know an individual, group or organisation that makes a difference through their time, work, or passion to help others, please nominate them for an award so we can make sure they get the recognition they deserve.”
Nominations for the 2024 Civic Recognition Awards are now open
Residents are encouraged to submit nominations online through the official form.

The Civic Recognition Panel will meet to consider all nominations on Monday 18 March 2024 and will recommend to the Council the names of the persons, or organisations to be given civic recognition. The awards themselves will be made in May 2024.
